Your New Hobby, by Dr. Ogi Ressel

Warm hellos to everyone!

I have talked about this topic in
the past, and from the overwhelming
response I received, I feel it is very
important that we revisit it again.
Every doctor I have ever talked with,
likes my concept of Chiropractic being
a "HOBBY! Yes!!!!!

So, let's develop this a bit further!

I find it surprising that many doctors do not think in that vein. Many think of what they do
as a Chiropractor in terms of a J.O.B - something you do to make money in order to support
their family, desires, playthings, toys, their lifestyle, and their future.
Something which is incredibly close to a term called "WORK.".....Ugh!
And, of course, we all know how we feel about "work", don't we?

The word "work" conjures up all those unpleasant emotions and memories of toil, strife, earning
your pay you once experienced when you had your summer job to pay for college - and often you
hated it. But.....you did it anyway because it was a means to an end you that had in mind.
Your discomfort was minimized by the wonderful goal you held in your heart - you were going to
help tons of people and kids when you finally graduated! Yes! It was awesome!!!
You couldn't wait! But...that loathsome and boring job had to come first! Yuck!

So you placed it in your heart and in your mind right next to taking out the garbage, walking
the dog, shoveling snow off your driveway, and other activities that simply did not move your
crank! Even watching grass grow seemed more exciting!
And here is the problem: As you now go to your office, the whole process appears incredibly
close to "going to work" - similar emotions!
So now, this amazing practice you've longed for, all of a sudden, is beginning to look similar
to your past jobs - almost evokes similar gut reactions! Almost!
It feels somehow similar. And somehow, drudgery comes to mind. But you now need to do this
because you don't know anything else, you need to support your family, and.......people tell you
that you can make tons of money doing what you do. The problem is that it is just not turning
out that way for you!

You'd much rather play golf - if you could afford it of course (I never did understand the
compulsion of running around a big lawn chasing a little white ball with a stick - but, Hey, that's
just me!). Or drive your Porsche - if you had one. Or that Ferrari. Or that Lambo. Or take off
to Paris for the weekend. Or take that Caribbean cruise. Or wax your new car. Or go lie on the
beach. Or get out there and mirror Sex and the city and load up on all those wonderful fashions
and especially those amazing shoes!!!!! Yes! Or take your wife to pick out that wonderful
diamond ring she so rightly deserves for putting up with you all this time!
Or .......whatever pleases you!

Hey.........As you are reading my words, I can see that sly smile slowly light up your face!
You are loving this! You are reveling in the romance of the ideas I just mentioned!
Yes!
I can see that crinkle in your eyes! And your grin is taking over your whole face!
WOW!.......
Doesn't all this sound awfully close to a "HOBBY?" Something you absolutely love doing?

A Hobby! You like that! Absolutely! You can hobby day and night! You are hobby party animal!
And you are incredibly good at your hobby! You are the best at doing your hobby! You never get
tired! No one can touch you! You are awesome at it! You have no equal!
Yoo-hoo!

One dictionary defines "hobby" as:
                          An activity or interest pursued outside one's regular
                          occupation and engaged in primarily for pleasure.

Pretty cool! Pleasure! You're all over it! You are loving the idea of pleasure! All for you!
You are a pleasure king/queen! You excell at pleasure! Incredible!

But.....let's pause for a moment.
Let's consider changing your perception:
What if the tables were turned? What if what you did as a chiropractor became your "HOBBY?"
What if you could derive incredible pleasure from being a chiro? And helping tons of parents
and their children in the process? And getting paid? And handsomely?
And what if you did this primarily for pleasure?
What an amazing concept!
Would it move your crank now? Would it get your heart racing?
I think so!
Absobloodylutely!

I remember when I was in practice only a few years ago, I would to tell my patients that
Chiropractic was my hobby. What I did as a Chiropractor was a hobby! And I was amazing at it,
but it was a hobby!
I would say, "Mary, don't you give me a hard time, because hobbies can change. Know what I mean?"
No one ever sassed me!
My life was with my family - my hobby was Chiropractic!

You see, when you see what you do in light of doing this for pleasure, for kicks, for fun, as a
reward - all that "work" stress and crap seem to magically disappear - you do not need it.
It is not part of your Universe any longer!
You begin to practice from the perspective that you are here to look after your patients, not to
grovel and pay bills and minimize expenses! You start to live large! It is a very freeing concept!
There is no more stress. You play all day at your very favorite thing - and you get paid for doing
what you love.
Imagine!

And your practice begins to be transformed: You begin to practice from the perspective that people
need you, you do not need them - you are no longer needy! I like that!
So, my hope for all of you is that you decide to change your perception of what you do.
Take up a new hobby - Chiropractic!

There are many doctors out there who are simply paralyzed with fear. And I want you to know
that it really is time to stop! It is time to change what you've been doing because it may not
working for you!
The Practice of Your Dreams is within your grasp but it is not based on more marketing and
new innovative ads, etc.  It is all based on your community seeing you as an incredible doctor
- someone that everyone WANTS to see!
Promise yourself that you'll start the New Year off with BANG instead of a whimper this coming
year!
