The Burden of Proof and Self Worth, By Dr. Ogi Ressel

Warm hellos to everyone!
It has been one week since I taught Module I in Toronto and I have to tell you that from their
emails, those doctors who attended are having life-altering changes taking place in their practices!
Why would that be, you are wondering?
Is it because of some glibby marketing and sales procedures I teach?
Is it because of some incredible and effective closing technique?
What about an amazing "conversion" tactic?
How about a few brilliant marketing tips?
Would it be all about learning to shed some fake tears to fool patients into believing you are really
sincere?
What about learning to scare the hell out of them so that they sign up with you?
I have to tell you that is none of the above!
None!
Not even one!
My purpose is simply to make you the most incredible and sought-after doctor in your community.
Did you catch those words? Yes, that's right. Sought-after! How about that? Sought-after! Yes! You
like the sound of that! Totally resonates with you! You are all over it! You are in!
The problem is that it is not happening for you! I get that. Let's look at why:
It struck me that many doctors do not feel worthy of the care they provide for their patients. I know
that this may sound a bit strange, but as a coach, this is what I see in many doctors I communicate with.
And most doctors do not place their patients on the correct level of care a patient may need. Many simply
feel that a patient will not "accept" their recommendations. This seems to be a prevalent thought in our
profession. The feeling seems to be one of fear: Fear that a patient will say "No." Fear that they may
not come back for the next visit. Fear that they will not have the money to pay you. Fear that they will
not refer. Fear that they will not.......whatever. Fear! With many, this seems to be the overriding feeling
in the office! I sense that this fear stems from a sense of "unworthiness" many doctors are riddled with.
It also stems from the reality of life: bills, overheard, rent, mortgage, private school for the kids,
vacations, and the price of life.
Many do not feel worthy of the responsibility of helping a patient. Of helping a child with Asthma, or
Colitis, or Colic, or Ear Infections, or an up and coming mom with Infertility, or stomach cramps, or .......
name your condition of choice!
A number of doctors also feel that they haven't seen it so it doesn't exist for them and, as a result, they
do not feel comfortable suggesting care for a problem they have rarely dealt with. Somehow they forget
that Chiropractic is NOT about "treating" diseases. It is all about correcting Subluxations - areas of the
spine where the nervous system is being prevented from communicating properly and transmitting
information to the body.
It is not about "treating" diseases. So now you can relax - it is not that important to know the nuances
of a disease process. It is important to know how to correct the interferences to the nervous system in
order to give the body the best chance of recovery. Why? Because it is programmed to do so.
"But, Dr. Ogi, I need to see proof to make sure this works."
I hear you. Listen....if everything has to be proven first, where would we be? Did you know that the
mechanics of Aspirin are still unknown today, yet tons of it are sold daily?
The burden of proof is a heavy one. Some things are simply accepted because they work - plain and
simple! Chiropractic is one of these. I don't think Harvey asked DD to prove to him that this new fangled
procedure - done by hand he was about perform to hopefully restore his hearing, was recognized in the
scientific community and was peer-reviewed.
No.
He probably said: "Let's do it." Was D.D. entirely confident that this new procedure would restore
Harvey's hearing? I doubt it. But...he did it anyway because he sensed the logic in his thinking and he
had confidence that this was right!
Yes.....The Body is a self-healing organism!
He felt worthy. There was no burden of proof. And so it is with what we do. Unfortunately, we seek the
burden of proof before we feel worthy of charging for our care and recommending what our patients
need.
Get over it. This is much bigger that you! And you do not need proof. Just do it. Adjust and miraculously
people will get better.
WOW!
They will actually recover under your very nose. In spite of your burden of proof. Imagine that!
So....get out there and start helping people with what they need, not what you think they will accept
from you! Or pay you for. Or agree with.
Do what you were destined to do. Do what you were chosen to do. Adjust all else will follow!
Warmest wishes,
Dr. Ogi Ressel
