Living an Excuse-Driven Life, by Dr. Ogi Ressel

Warm hellos to everyone!
Ok.....I'm back! After two and a half weeks of baking in the sun on Hilton Head beaches
I am ready to really rock!
And I have to tell you that I missed not communicating with all of you. That's right,
I missed all of you!
And I have to share a fabulous experience with you which will be the topic for my THOTS
over the next few weeks or so: On the drive there and back (I like to drive), Leslee and
I were listening to the  Wayne Dyer CD set of his newest book Excuses Begone. Ok, Ok,....
some of may be thinking that I need a life.....and I am thinking: "I have one and I love it!"
Listening to his words created a cascade of thoughts in my mind and I could barely contain
my enthusiasm!
The result is that I feel compelled to share  some of my revelations with you as I feel they
are relevant to all of us as chiropractors:

Believe it or not, and very unfortunately, much of our life seems to be based on excuses
and/or conditionedways of being. As a Coach, I hear tons of them. Most of them are really
brilliant and innovative and even convincing - especially to the doctor.
And why not? After all it was his/her excuse!
Most of them are also well-hidden from plain sight - they just become part of our life and
form our belief system. Herein lies the problem: The power of your beliefs to keep you
stuck is enormous! Those deeply ingrained notions act as chains restricting you from
experiencing your unique destiny and achieving the Practice of your Dreams! Go Figure!
Ok.....some of you may be feeling a bit uncomfortable - I am trudging on delicate territory!
Relax. All those thoughts, excuses, and firmly held beliefs can be changed! Your beliefs,
all those formlessenergy patterns you've adopted as your self-image, have the ability to
change and give you the power to wipe out those unwanted traits! Every self-limiting
thought you use to explain why you are not living your life to the fullest, you can challenge
and reverse in spite of the fact that they may be deeply rooted in your upbringing, tradition,
science, or life experience.

Many doctors use the excuse that it is their genetic programming that is at fault; "I can't help
the way I am. It's in my genes!"

Ok....I got it.
This means that you have fat genes, unhappy genes, shy genes, bad-luck genes, fear genes,
angry genes, poor genes, cellulite genes, and a bunch of other misfits.
The result is that you live an excuse-driven life and you approach your practice from that
same perspective. This is a very popular and socially accepted rationalization (excuse).
But at the same time a sense of powerlessness over comes you when you are faced with the
prospect of change since you believe that "I can't change my biology."

I urge you to read "The Biology of Belief" by Bruce Lipton where he challenges long-accepted
dogma of DNA and genetics. He found that our personal belief systems and perceptions can
trump our genetics and even our cellular DNA - when we change our thinking and perception,
we can actually change our DNA. WOW!!! Incredible! Your perceptions have the power to
change your genetic make-up. Your beliefs can and do control your biology!
Amazing!
So where did we go wrong? When did this start? When did we start to recognize that we had
some kind of limitation and then try to rationalize it?
Here is where it gets really interesting:
Many doctors justify their poor health, scarcity, unhappiness, and lack of success in family
and cultural conditioning.
In his work, "Virus of the Mind,"  Richard Brodie, found that thoughts, beliefs, attitudes, etc.,
in your mind can spread and infect others. This is the science of Memetics and each thought
is then termed a "meme."
The reason he coined it a virus is because its properties are the same as a virus:
1.  It spreads
2.  It is infectious
3.  And it multiplies
By the age of 6 or so, we have all been infected and programmed by an endless inventory
of memes. Some are good and some are not but the point is that they are easily spread
throughout the population.
So here you are; a well educated doctor, a leader, but you are infected with a variety of
thoughts and beliefs (memes) which are harmful to you and your well-being - and you may
not even realize it! And here is the kicker - most of them have been implanted by our loving
parents! .....And you will then pass them onto your children and so forth!

These memes die hard because they become who you think you are. That's a problem.
Shedding them is like removing your vital organs! Not fun!
Listen...you've been a memetic superstar for years, mimicking beliefs and behaviors even
beyond your family: TV, advertising, religion, etc.
Listen.....Marcus Aurelius, the Roman Emperor once said: "Our Life is what our thoughts make it."
You are the culmination of your thoughts, your beliefs and your perceptions.
The Secret certainly states that "All that we are is the result of what we have thought."
And Waldo Emerson certainly agrees: "The precursor to every action is a thought!"
Ok...So what can be done to unhinge our deeply rooted beliefs, perceptions, and excuses?
You will have to wait. That will be my topic in one of my THOTS in the next few weeks.
In the meantime consider the above......
Warmest wishes to everyone,
Ogi
